Friends of the Library

Friends of the Rock Rapids Public Library
Friends of the Library is a nonprofit advocacy organization which supports the Library.  Their volunteer members advocate, educate, and raise funds on behalf of the Library, its patrons, and the community.
 

Aims:
1.  Encourage community awareness of library services.
2.  Sponsor special programs for children and adults.
3.  Provide volunteers for programs, events, and projects.
4.  Raise funds for special programming and to purchase materials and equipment.

 Mission:  The purpose of this organization shall be to focus public attention on library services, facilities and needs, and to encourage donations, gifts, endowments, and bequests to the library, thereby stimulating increased usage and enhancement of library resources and services, and thus helping enrich the lives of the local community.

Ongoing Projects include:  Fall Festival in October, Spring Author Event in April, Pockets Full of Fun (Summer Reading Program), 1000 Books Before Kindergarten.

Special Projects included:   Chairs & tables for storytime (2010), Books on CDs (2008, 2011), Movie site license (2011), Puppet tree & puppets (2007, 2010), Artificial plants, CD-cassette player, Story kits with activities for children, Books and puzzles for children, Two large animal floor pillows, Lounge chair, Signs & lettering, Open house (basement remodeled), Visiting author programs. Books for babies at the hospital

Meetings:  The Friends Board of Directors meets several times a year to plan events, projects, and the annual membership drive.
